Read Ann’s Story
I moved here for comfort. I stayed because I found myself again.
Why I chose to move to Gravenhurst
Ann’s story is beautifully rooted in Gravenhurst. Having grown up in the area, she was already familiar with The Manor and the sense of community it represents. When loneliness began to shape her days, Ann made the thoughtful decision to move in—seeking friendship, connection, and a renewed sense of belonging.
A smooth and welcoming transition
Because she felt ready for this next chapter, Ann’s transition into life at the Manor was smooth and reassuring. Along the way, something unexpected happened: memories of Gravenhurst from her earlier years began to return, reconnecting her with places, people, and moments from her past. While adjusting to a shared bathroom in her suite was initially challenging, she has since grown comfortable and fully settled into daily life.
“
Life gets easier when you’re surrounded by good people and you don’t feel alone.

The people make this home
What Ann treasures most is the people. She speaks warmly about feeling part of a true family—making friends, playing games, sharing conversations, and enjoying the many programs that bring residents together. Connection has become the heart of her experience.
I love games, conversation and company
Her days are filled with hobbies that spark joy and purpose. Ann never misses a nightly game of Scrabble and enjoys crafts of all kinds. She often encourages others to join programs and lends a helping hand wherever she can. She has even discovered new creative passions, developing a green thumb with plants and helping lead the sewing of granny squares for charity afghans—something she had never imagined doing before.

A Life of adventure and family
Ann’s life has always included adventure and meaningful milestones. As an adult, she learned to ride a motorcycle and later traveled on bike trips with her husband, becoming remarkably knowledgeable about motorcycles along the way. Her proudest and most meaningful role, however, has been being a mother to her two sons—one now living in Calgary and the other serving as a police detective in Toronto. After attending business college, Ann built a career in real estate administration, contributing her skills with dedication and care.
Who inspires me now
Today, her greatest inspiration is her son Shawn, whose presence and encouragement continue to guide her. Since moving to the Manor, Ann has rediscovered many parts of herself—running into old friends around town, reconnecting with church, and becoming far more outgoing than she once was. Where she once kept to herself, she now embraces companionship, laughter, and helping others, while still enjoying quiet moments with a good book when she chooses.

Advice for someone considering retirement living
Ann’s advice to others is simple and sincere: keep an open mind. Change can bring new friendships, renewed hobbies, and meaningful joy—while still allowing you to remain true to yourself. She recommends The Manor at Gravenhurst without hesitation, grateful for the connection, comfort, and sense of family she has found here.
